What is holding LSU back from being able to throw enough cash around to grab someone elite?
Even Wade was not highly sought after when he was hired.
Is it a lack of investment, interest, or possibly lack of local basketball talent that holds this sport back so much more than others?

For one the PMAC is literally a garbage heap falling apart.

If ole fricking Miss can hire Chris Beard we should be able to get someone better than McNuggets

Yeah facilities can’t help but once again that’s a cash problem. We have proven to have endless supply in other areas. We spend more on fired football coaches then we do on an entire decade of basketball salaries

Under any other circumstances Ole Miss NEVER hires an HC the caliber of Beard. But credit their AD. He was willing to accept the virtue signaling criticism and make a bold move. Beard won’t be there long though. It’s just a matter of what good program is in the market first. Louisville?

We had one. The rest of them saw what we did to him.
We won't get another for 15 years.

We have a horrendous arena.
Basketball plays third fiddle to Football and baseball.
Bad fan support.
All the elite coaches are already at established programs.

The PMAC won’t be over 50% full for any game this season

Does that include Women & Gym?

I don’t know, but lack of talent is absolutely the last thing holding us back. You can win a natty by just recruiting Houston, Memphis, Little Rock, Jackson, New Orleans, and Mobile. All within 4-5 hour drive

Best of luck getting kids out of Little Rock to go to LSU.
The lack of in-state talent is certainly a problem.

There are 2 from LR in the top 100 for 24. One committed to Clemson and one to Mizzou…

LSU will always be a football & baseball school first and they make it known.
In state talent sucks. Basketball isn’t a priority to fans like football and baseball is. Old timers choke on their popcorn and sit there silent in the front rows.
Bottom line, not many care about basketball at LSU besides the 5,000 or so loyal fans.

All of the above. The PMAC is a shithole. Our facilities are very bad. Football and Baseball are miles and miles ahead of MBB in terms of popularity, success, fan interest, and administrative support.
Everything exists in a cycle, all starting with administrative support. Administration needs to hire the appropriate staff, both in terms of coaching and marketing, to make attending the games appealing to students. These students then graduate and form the alumni base, which contributes to donations and funding for the program. This funding then goes towards improvements to facilities and funding quality coaches. These coaches then recruit good players and put forth a quality product, which in turn increases fan and student engagement. Everything is connected.
The issue with LSU MBB is the consistent fanbase isn't there. It's directly linked to success. Football and baseball will always have a larger and more devoted fanbase, even if we aren't as successful as other years. For example, in 2021, when football was 4-6 facing Monroe, 92k fans still showed up to Tiger Stadium for an OOC game. Proportionately speaking, nothing like that would ever happen for basketball.
In my honest opinion, Brady left the program in a good enough state to where we could have built a consistent fanbase and staked a claim as an elite program. Unfortunately, administration fumbled terribly by hiring TJ and then later JJ. Two coaches and almost a decade of shite until Will Wade was hired. Imagine if someone like Wade was hired after Brady's departure- the program would have been in an amazing spot.
Long story short, it's due to a combination of everything you mentioned, but it all goes back to administration at the end of the day imo.

Wasn’t the fan base there 2 years ago
I mean we had road fan supporters also. This could be a quick fix. I promise you that

It was, because we were successful with Wade, like I said.
There is a difference between having a devoted fanbase and a fanbase that only shows up when you win- which is why I brought up the ULM football game as an example.
Even when we had success under WW, the majority of fans only showed up for SEC games. The PMAC was still pretty empty for our OOC games. Long story short, we just don't have the basketball fanbase to support an elite program- and we won't until administration doubles down on wanting us to be elite.
