I dated a girl once that was poor af but always tipped obscene amounts.
Like, we’d go to a cupcake shop and pay $12 or something and she’d tip $12 because she “knows it’s hard for everyone”.
I just said ok

Had she ever been a server? Everyone I know who served tables for any appreciable amount of time treat tipping like a religion.

i think that's respectable. I think when you have to work for tips, often people understand the "struggle" more and are more willing to tip.
