There are over 100 miles of paved trails in the greater NO area, most of them on the river levees where there are no vehicles or intersections to worry about. You just get out there and fly.
I have a Marin gravel bike with 32cc tires... So more or less a road config. God forbid I wipe out on that thing. I'm a big dude, and if I hit the ground I'm toast. but I try to ride every weekend. You get to be outdoors with the fresh air, and you can go fast.
