First, thanks to all who helped me while planning the trip there.
Second, this applies to me. I know many will disagree with me. All good.

Arrived last Saturday and first thoughts five minutes off the plane were “I hate this place.”

Got the rental car and headed out of town for Utah.
The scenery north of LV is incredible. We went back roads and stopped at Valley of Fire SP. Incredible.
Stayed at AirBnB in Kanab UT.
Sunday-Bryce Canyon. Amazing. Otherworldly
Monday-Zion. Hike the Narrows. Also amazing.
Tuesday-Stopped at Hoover Dam on the way back to LV.

3 nights at the Bellagio for a conference. We had a fountain view room and the shows are pretty great. You can listen to the music on the tv while the fountains dance.
However, watching them fountain-side is crap. Packed in and being shoved by people from other countries with a different viewpoint regarding personal space. Can’t hear the music so it’s just the fountain.
Very smoky in the hotel and crowded.
Had good meals. No shows. I was in conference all days and not up to late night.
As we were leaving I knew I’d never come back unless it was to fly in and go somewhere else. It’s an amazing part of the country.

That said, if you like gambling and late nights, I can see the appeal. There is a cool energy.

For me, if I am going to be wall to wall with crowds and traffic, I would go to NYC. Better in every way.

the first time to Vegas is overwhelming and yeah it's not for everyone and I would never bring kids with me

once you get your bearings though, Vegas can be a lot of fun

the first time I went I wanted to see everything
subsequent trips you can narrow your focus and find the hidden gems and things you really want to do

You arrived in Las Vegas at probably the worst possible time. The a large portion of the town, especially where you were staying, is in complete turmoil due to preparations for the Formula 1 race in a couple weeks.

I would say that most people don’t go to gamble. I have been a dozen times and I haven’t wagered $1000. I go to eat, drink, see titties, and go to shows.

I was there two weeks ago and the fountains at Bellagio were covered up for all of the Formula One grandstands….I guess that’s not the case anymore?

They were going. The grandstands would block the view from LV Blvd street level but you see them from higher up across the street.
Saw them from Beer Park one evening although they were partially blocked.

My favorite way to enjoy the Bellagio fountain is to have dinner at a terrace table at Spago.

No shows. We looked and looked and nothing seemed particularly appealing. We aren’t show people really. Plus we are going to see the Eagles tomorrow night.
Also, I was up at 5 doing work before all day conference
And we had our fun the few days before.

I saw the Hotel California tour in Houston in 1977.

My wife has never seen them and they are her favorite band.

Should be fun.

That's why you couldn't hear the music. Normally you can stand directly in front and see them well and hear the music just like they do in Oceans 11. The view from in front is pretty dramatic. You hear the music and the water. It's my favorite thing in Vegas and I'd never go without seeing them. When I took my mom, we had a fountain view at the Bellagio and she really enjoyed it, but it still isn't the same as standing in front of them.

She will love it. They are my favorite band and I've seen them 3 times. I saw Hell Freezes Over in Houston, the last tour they did before Glenn Frey died in Bossier, and the tour with Vince and Frey's son in Houston a few years ago. Even without Frey, they are still good.

Ah, makes sense. We were on the Bellagio side, not the street side.

Vegas might be the last place in the US I’d take my kids to.

We have taken our daughter just about every timer and we have been 8 times...She only missed the first trip.

We drove the last time.

We do not gamble much...Last time we only gambled the last night because we had been there 4 nights and were leaving in the morning. We went to the hotel and said we have not gambled so we went downstairs for about one hour.

We usually do a concert or two. Have seen Celine, Cher, Rod Stewart. Been to 2 Cirque shows and then so other stuff. Went to the comedy Cellar.

We usually spend at least one night on Fremont Street downtown. We spend one night at Caesars forum shops and eating maybe a show.

Our days are spend shopping at the outlets, going to Hoover Dam and Red Rock.

I'm in my early 40s and remember my parents taking us to Vegas when we were kids. While it wasn't the ideal place for kids, it was fun and there was enough to do.

Beginning in the early 2000s Vegas morphed into the nightlife and nightclub capitol of the world. That changed the overall vibe and the people that it attracted. Along with the decriminalization and relaxed enforcement of drugs and quality of life crimes, the strip has become a total shite show.
