Willie seems to be leaning into the offense after being the complete opposite last season. He also started Hawkins, which I take as a sign that they like what they see in him, not to mention it's leaning into the shooting. If this was last year's Willie, Dyson would have started for sure.

I think a lot of that is Borrego in his ear. Plus you’re missing BI you need points- Hawkins can score- so I agree smart move. I personally wasn’t a huge Hawkins fan but Im eating crow. The kid is fearless, plays hard defense and even rebounds. Hes not just a shooter and thats impressed me the most.

The Borrego pedestal is becoming a little much, imo. Guy's kind of a journeyman assistant coach, who's offenses weren't particularly notable when he was a HC.

Felt like by the end of camp even the players were getting tired of being asked about him in every interview, like the guy's some revolutionary mind.

I disagree on that. Borrego was an assistant under Pop not just random HCs. As a head coach with Hornets his offenses were pretty successful. I’m not saying hes some genius, but hes far and away better than what we had last season. It seems like Zion enjoys talking about him, he credits him for having more space on offense and making the offense flow better.

For Borrego himself? Yes. For Willie needing an offensive coordinator he and the players will listen to? No.

Last season I was starting to have SVG flashbacks with how little care and thought the offense seemed to be getting. It really has done a 180 which is quite surprising.

It's been a weird start to the season, small sample size of course...

We're playing the shooters like we've always wanted. We're shooting 3s like we've always wanted, mostly wide open 3s.

And with all that, we are the 4th worst offense in the NBA right now.

Because we have matt Ryan, Dyson daniels, herb Jones, Hawkins and Val taking 3s instead of Trey, more B.I., etc.

We did play three VERY good defensive teams so far though, Memphis, Knicks and Warriors are all top 10 defenses

Not entirely true but on the right track.

CJ/Ryan/Hawkins are the ones taking the bulk of the 3s, which is what we want, and the 3 combined are doing fine.

The rest of the team isn't taking a ton of 3s, but where you're correct is that they've still been terrible and are bringing the team 3pt % down even though it's been on smaller volumes than the top 3. Other than Herb, he's been fine.

Outside of the top 3 + Herb, the rest of the guys, BI included, are shooting 18% from 3.

Process isn't the issue IMO. We're getting wide open looks, we're just not making them as a team. Like I mentioned in the post above, we're getting the right dudes to take the 3s too, and they're doing fine. So it's not like teams are scheming and we're getting open looks but with the wrong dudes.

The problem is, the "wrong dudes" even though they're not shooting a bunch of them have just been sooooo bad, the team as a whole is suffering.

Yes, this is what I meant. Offense needed to improve. Treating James Borrego like some savant has gone over the top.

No was treating him like a savant but there is also a glaring change in the offense. I think he deserves credit for that which in the long run will benefit us when we get healthy.
