Maybe doesn't fit this scenario, but I can definitely say I see this all of the time, and can say I thank the men who don't know how to communicate for some really really great nights with their exes.
We get it. You like big girls.

Most all the men I know who got divorced are fricking miserable afterwards. Cant remember one of them bragging about being happier living alone in a one room apartment.

I think its kind of like a death in the family. Theres a very rough patch at first, but you slowly get over it.

If a close family member makes a choice that I don't agree with, my standard answer is "I don't necessarily agree with what you're doing but, I'm with you."
Families family.
Families family.

Haha yeah you put up with alot of shite for the sake of your kids. Its part of the job description.

you're down with your spouse being fat, depressed, mentally ill, sexually unattractive, and hooked on pain pills

Ive had several of my friends whose wives have left them for petty reasons like this guy did & its been awful.

Divorce should be a last resort if there are young children involved.

quote:This is probably true. I’d advocate for ol boy doing the hard work on all of his flaws, while teaming with the wife to address hers and theirs as a couple for a long time before divorce is an option. Maybe he did that and she just wouldn’t engage, but that’s not how it comes off. Sounds like she got fat, he tried to shame her to change, that didn’t work, so he bailed.
Staying with a spouse while everyone is unhappy is absolutely not always the best thing for the kids.
I suspect it’s just another case of two parents too selfish to put the needs of each other and their children ahead of their own simple desires.

Agree with this from experience. Parents got divorced when I was 12. It sucked at first, but ended up better for everyone in the long run. Of course, my dad stayed active in my life. That will be the biggest thing as far as the kids go.

This isn't true, but, so far you're down with your spouse being fat, depressed, mentally ill, sexually unattractive, and hooked on pain pills so the rest of us must look picky by comparison. At some point you have to have some self-respect.
Project much?? I haven't endorsed any of the above.
I'm only trying to decipher all the qualifiers people want to place on their spouse as grounds to divorce them.
So you tell me... If you supposedly loved them when would you pull the plug? At 25 pounds? 50? 100?

Chances are ole boy was fat himself, they stopped being attracted, and the sex stopped and that's where he drew the line.
Its rare that one is in great shape and the other is 100 lbs overweight because one of them is eating healthy and that usually rubs off on the other. If it doesn't, that's pathetic frankly.
This could go either way, he woke up one day and said frick it and left after a weekend of no sex. Or he worked with her for 5 years and she just stopped caring.

You make it sound like this was a quickly occurring event. You don't put on 100 pounds overnight. That takes time and effort.

Why is most of the anger being cast towards the guy?
We should be equally as mad at her for being fat and lazy and doing nothing about it.
Maybe they are both pieces of shite.

I didn’t intend to come off that way. I’m not defending her weight gain as ok, being a dedicated spouse, or even a good parent. Both parents sound selfish to me at the expense of their children.

People aren't robots, it's different for everyone. But the moment you've exhausted ll resources and realize your spouse refuses to fix the thing that is ruining your marriage and you realize can't be saved, that's the time, that's the answer to your question...again.

Other than a wife cheating situation it seems like most dudes are much happier after the divorce.
shite I’m happily married and there are days where I think “man I wish I was single in my old apartment with my ps2 and a fifth of roses”

OP said good for him & more men should be doing this. Some of us disagree that this was the best solution.
