Garbage Disposal Help

I ran my garbage disposal because sink wasn’t draining. I realized after about 20 seconds that our drain plug had slipped down, so I was running garbage disposal without much going through it. Now it’s humming but nothing is turning. I hit the reset button on bottom and I unplugged for 20 seconds. How screwed am I

You're probably OK. There should be a large allen wrench that came with the disposal to turn it to try to dislodge any blockage. Here is an video that may help you out.

That worked!
I have had that before myself, usually the Allen wrench does the trick.

Yep! Not sure why it jammed up on me randomly. It worked perfectly fine yesterday. I had just assumed it had something to do with running it empty and motor burning or something

You won't burn the motor running it dry for 20 seconds or even for a minute or longer.

To really clean out the Disposal, put a bunch of ice cubes in it, turn on the water to let a little come out. Turn on the Disposal.
You won't believe the black crap the comes out. If it fills up with water and ice, keep it running until the water goes down.
I do this whenever I have ice left over in the ice chest. This should be done ever couple of months.

This works very well. Anutime mine starts stinking, I flush a glass full of ice cubes down it and it is good to go!

I used to run some dawn down there as well. I finally realized I never used it and got rid of it when it crapped out. At this point I am unsure why people need one

Put a wooden plunger handle in it and move it around. Make sure nothing is stuck in it.

Works great and I would recommend this a few times a year as a preventive. another thing to do is to cut a lemon or lime in half and run it through the disposal to help eliminate smells. or anytime you have citrus peels like orange, grapefruit, lemon, or lime peels run those through and it pretty much does the same thing. Always run the water when you do that, of course.
