Why is this guy not in the field. I thought he played very well thus far and didn’t see him out there against army. Is speights taking his spot?

According to BK Whit flashes but isn't always in the right spot while Speights is experienced and knows where to be.

Because the guy in his place is finally healthy and led the team in tackles the last 2 games

So far yes. Whit Weeks is a really good football player. However, he isn’t as good now as he will be later on. In the games when Speights was out he got out of position….a lot. He recovered pretty well for the most part. But on passing downs, the damage was significant.

A few weeks ago (pun intended), others were saying the same thing. I suppose Speights was playing when he wasn't fully healthy for a while, and that affected his play. He's healthy now and playing well. But some of the people downvoting you now were in agreement with you earlier in the season.

Does it really matter if you are in the right spot if you can't make the play when you are there?

You don't want a guy who is rarely in the right spot either. But Weeks at least makes some plays when he's in the. In most games you forget Speights is even out there. Thus far he doesn't have a single TFL or sack in 5 games. Weeks has 3.0 TFLs and 0.5 sacks. Not eye popping numbers. But better than zero.

I'm not saying Speights shouldn't be playing. But I don't think Weeks should be largely out of the rotation. In 2013 and 2014 DJ Welter continued to start game after game because he was more experienced than Kendall Beckwith. Yet, Welter rarely made any impact plays for what was a pretty weak defense (relative to prior LSU defenses). Beckwith eventually started playing more and more...and impact plays followed.

Had been said many times he’s still learning how to line up our defense.

It matters when you’re not and give up a big play- and it HAS happened to him.

Knowing where to be doesn’t mean shite if you can’t make the play

Have you noticed a marked improvement the last couple of games?

Sprieght looked awful good to while in there. Plus he is a veteran and knows more about where to be. Weeks needs a little more bulk and will be the starter next year plus will play 30% percent of the time this year.

BK and the entire staff watch game film and I trust they see things we don't.

Conversely if you not where you are supposed to be you usually ain't making a play either, in fact that often leads to giving up big plays.

Early 2nd half Army QB makes a long run running to his right while Speights went in the opposite direction.

The defense doesn’t always win.
