Yep, the US State Department recently limited renewals to snail mail through the post office , because the online scammers dominated. Ripoffs included application fees, processing fees and private data theft. With NSA, FBI and CIA support they were unable to police the process.

Yet Elon Musk is expected to police truth telling

Thats funny, because of being on hold on the phone with my bank today, the on hold message reccomended using online services, specificallyfor the threat of id theft when using mail.. Which one is it?

The good old trusty USPS whose carrier I’ve had for twenty years and who routinely and occasionally delivers to me my neighbors’ mail? Same organization whose local branch has been oft times found to have employees who’ve stolen packages and social services/revenue checks? That’ll work out.

USPS has been the official handler of passport applications and renewals for forever.
