---decent injury luck this season for the overall team...then I think we'll have a VERY good year & be a serious threat come playoff time. Especially if we decide to go ahead & trade Val at some point this year.

It’s just one game but hard to ignore Herb hitting those corner threes.

I actually really like "the look" of Dyson's 3-pt shot. Herb...? Not so much...but I just think Herb will find some way...to get to that 36% number...& I expect him to go to the hoop much more effectively this year. I assume we will run whenever possible...we've got some guys that would be really good at it

His form looks better but I'm still skeptical. He shot it well in preseason last year as well. I really hope it translates into the regular season.

Assuming you're talkin' about Dyson...I'm actually MUCH more concerned with his lack of aggressiveness on the offensive end, especially finishing at the hoop. I thought he might end up being a decent "1" but now I'm starting to believe Herb might end up being a better "1" than Dyson. Anyway, with Dyson's D...he can always still be quite useful...even with shortcomings on offense.

Herb shot like 40% from 3 to end last season. I think him and Vinson have found something that works. I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people this year. Hopefully he can pick up the slack we'll be missing with Trey out.

To be fair I think he’ll get much better looks in this offense than he did last year. I know this sounds silly considering he missed a lot of open 3s last year but theres a rhyme and method to the offense under JB which will help Herb and the other open shooters tremendously.

Im not giving up on Dyson but not really understanding why we need him if we have Herb, its almost impossible to play both at same time. Honestly I think Herb is a more aggressive offensive player and a better defensive player than him. Lets see how he does early in the season but by trade deadline I think I would use him to upgrade other areas on this team.

Huge advantage to having two outside defensive stoppers instead of just one. I agree that Herb is a MUCH better defender than DD but DD would definitely be our 2nd best by a fairly huge margin. Need both of them...and need one to become the future "1" (plus...CJ is on the way down) I'm leanin' heavily toward thinking Herb will see quite a bit of action as our designated "1" (if we have such a thing)...this coming season.

Yeah but I just feel Pelicans had higher hopes for Dyson rather than him be a crappier version of Herb. I just watch Dyson and I cant see any role for him from an offensive standpoint. He literally disappears on the floor offensively. Last night, Kira who honestly sucked basically overshadowed him in terms of scoring and being aggressive. That just cant happen.

Gotta admit...I'm startin' to really worry about Dyson's offensive game. But he's just so young with so much potential if things actually work out on both ends...plus, I think we have another year or two...to figure out if he can develope into something useful...or not. Hard to just tell a guy..."Hey...take charge out there !!"...& expect him to do it. Maybe the light will come on...before too much longer.

Jeez. The kid is just 20. He’s not going to be a crappier version of Herb. But Dinky is right about the “if they can both shoot 36% from 3” we have something because in 2-3 years when Trey and Dyson are stronger and wiser that makes a lineup of BI/Herb/Trey/Zion/Dyson deadly. You’d have a ver switchable defense with enough offensive versatility to be safety valves for your stars.

I mean Kira was very young too. Did he develop into what we thought? I know people keep saying when players are drafted young they’ll get better. Some do and most of those are for other teams. Others honestly really don’t. Dyson game just like last year, has no offensive aggression. You honestly think on our team where we have very ball dominant offensive players, Dyson will get minutes and improve enough to make an impact? I highly doubt it.

Yeah maybe. But lets be honest we do better with guys who have more experience coming into the league like Herb, Jose and even Trey. Guys like Dyson, Kira, NAW and Jaxson who are raw just don’t develop for us. I hope Dyson is the exception but i doubt it.

We don’t know. Injuries and roster changes have kept us from finding out.

He will get minutes for his defense. He’ll be more than a bench player if he develops on offense. He doesn’t need much, just a good enough 3 and the floater he’s already showed flashes of. Again, he’s 20, don’t act like he’s a finished product or what he needs to add is crazy.

Yep...36% from 3 (on what should be ONLY stand still C&S) and a floater. Not that tough to accomplish. Would make him quite valuable...imo

We do know. Kira is a bust. He got injured, lost his job to an undrafted free agent (Jose) and never got it back. If Kira was going to be a substantial contributor to a NBA team we would have known by now- injuries or not.
I think people equate because Dyson is 20 his game will substantially improve. Thats not always true. Again, I can point to many players who haven’t improved. His three isn’t close to being there and he continues to show a lack of offensive aggression. At first I thought it was a rookie wall but I think thats who he is on offense, hes not a scorer, or a shooter. He moves the ball on offense, thats about it. The most the guy scored all last season in a game was 14 points. Teams just like last season will ignore him on offense and he wont make them pay.

He doesn’t need to substantially improve. He needs to hit open C&S 3s and an adequate rate, and he needs to be able to score on the move/cutting. As I mentioned, his floater seems like a good place to start for that.
I was not a believer in Herb after his first summer league. His offense was so bad I just didn’t see how he would improve at his age. He was much more a finished product than Dyson, but now Herb is out there Eurostepping into reverse layups.
I’m not saying Dyson’s success is guaranteed, but I think it’s a lot more likely than not, because the skills he needs to add he’s already shown flashes of.

Herb was an extremely odd case. Just truly awful offensively arriving in college. He was "18 years old...goin' on 14" offensively and "18...goin' on 22" defensively. And no matter what anybody says, Herb was most definitely NOT a PG at Alabama. Oats saw the potential, even offensively, but Herb just had NO idea how to play on the offensive end...& so Oats pretty much gave up on the PG idea. Funny thing you mention the "Euro-step" because I think I saw him try it ONE time in 4 yrs at Alabama, and nearly fell over laughing when he pulled it off.
The guy is on the fast-track offensively. this season. Just NO way to predict what his ceiling is...offensively. Should have a much better idea...by the end of this season. Should be interesting.

One thing with Herb, he never lacked offensive aggression even if he wasn’t efficient doing it. Part of that was getting the experience offensively at alabama, his rookie year as well and his mindset offensively.
What worries me about Dyson is something you can’t control or even technically teach. Thats his aggression and confidence offensively. The only way it’ll get better is if he gets significant minutes on our team. I don’t see that happening considering he’s probably our 9th best player and I wouldn’t be surprised if Willie played Naji over him. Which honestly means that he’ll get very limited minutes on this team to show he can make a significant impact. I think Dyson at some point will be successful unfortunately I don’t see that being with the pelicans. I just don’t see Willie or this staff being patient with him. Its a big year for Willie and if Dyson has a couple dud minutes- Naji likely takes his spot. Personally, I think it’s insignificant what Dyson does. I think pels will stay healthy and have a big year but at the same time I dont think Dyson will be a big part of that.
