I'm into S4 now and still liking. Great show that I probably would've loved even more if I watched in HS/college. As mentiond season 2 is just way off the rails. There's still some good as well but man it's like they just had 50 different ideas and threw them all together anyway.
Season 3..man I really hate the mccoys. I know that's by design and that's how their cast but still. Kinda feel bad for JD since he's a naive young freshman whose unfairly kept under his dad's thumb. The dad is just an arse though. I hate it for Matt that he can see the writing on the wall but ultimately if you're the coach you've gotta go to JD espeically if he's that good already adn only a freshman. The very end is so strange to me. Mr. Mccoy and wade aikman are somehow thick as thieves with all the boosters and stage a coup to get Eric fired. What? Like I totally understand he's a hotshot whose son is the starting QB, that makes sense. But these are outsiders and we've been repeatedly bashed over the head with how communal and tight-knit Dillon is. So the boosters, all of whom have won rings for the panthers, are going to fire the coach that's just won them a state title and led them back again, in favor of a couple guys riding into town a year ago? I know the mccoys have money which I think had somethign to do with it but it still just seems a bit out there. Was mr mccoy funnelling a shite ton of money to the boosters to make it happen? maybe I missed htat.
SEason 4 I'm about halfway thorugh so I dont' know how it ends yet. This almost feels like a reboot and a whole new show since we've got so much cast turnover. Street, Saracen, Lyla, Tyra are pretty much all gone. It's still kinda weird to me that the district split and what caused it. I'm binging it at nights so it's possible there's some things I've accidentally missed. Honestly I'm not really wild about most of the new characters..maybe it's jsut because I don't have 3 years of connection wtih them yet but on the face of it I'm just not really drawn in with them. Of course Riggins is still around and I can't decide what to think of his arc. I was so happy for him to finally break out and go to college and make somethign of himself but then he immediatley quits and is back in dillon commiting crimes and living in a trailer. Like dude just can't help himself and appears doomed to that life forever. Billy is fricking idiot and it's hard to have any sympathy for him.

Just finished watching all of the show! Great show and your synopsis was pretty spot on with what I felt as well. Was not a fan of Season 5. Too much character turnover, but when they're supposed to be in high school, thats what happens
