If the announcement is made today, some of you fans will not be satisfied with Miles because it not the DC YOU wanted

Even if we did name a new d coordinator before the bowl game he wouldn't do anything until after...

from Wikipedia:

Chavis has been criticized for his use of the Mustang defensive package. Tennessee defensive backfield players line up between 5 and 15 yards away from the players they are covering in his scheme. The third string quarterback for a struggling UCLA team opened the 2008 season by beating Tennessee. With future NFL players in the defensive backfield in Demetrice Morley and Eric Berry, the secondary of Tennessee continues to struggle to stop short or long pass plays.

Is this what we want ????????????????

the "head guy" maybe????

Not implying that. LM is safe. He's got at least 3 years of bank based on MNC. He used 1 this year.

However, the staff this year lost the team. Buddy began talking about this last week and it has become worse since.

This is typical of "players coaches". They all lose their team after a few years. Through last year, MF, ED, GD, CS, and JH had a mission and kept the team on track.

This years team has lost total faith in the staff.

So, the question is can a "players coach" suddenly flip the switch and command the respect of a "disciplinarian"?

This is the biggest issue facing this program. If LM cannot reverse this trend then he will have even greater problems.

Hmmm ... this from the Wiki article.

Look at the stats...

3rd in scoring defense
2nd total defense
4th rushing defense
2nd pass defense

Doing this with a crappy offense that made the defense play more minutes is remarkable.

Tennessee always played solid defense under Chavis. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I remember that game. UCLA scored 24 points, in double overtime. Not bad. Also, 14 of those points came off of TOs.

UTs defense ranked pretty well in the SEC standings --- no worse than 4th in any category. Not bad for a team that really struggled. My concern would be that UT seemed to struggle mightily against weaker opponents (UCLA, for instance).

NO.....
You can always loosen your style,
but not tighten it up.

That's why in management a NEW hired always goes in tough...if later on he finds he does not have to be, he can relax some, but once it is relaxed, IT IS RELAXED.

Don't know if anyone actually watched Tenn this season or even last season, but I'll have to pass on this guy. I would rather the DC from Ole Miss. Plays a more aggressive style and coaches D line well, something we always seem loaded at.

Is the same arse clown that was their defensive co-ordinator when Matt Mauck ran 20 quarterback draws in the 2001 SEC championship game?
I guess Urban Meyer gave him a strong rec so he can continue to hang half a hundred on us.

If he's our guy I just hope he leaves some of his UT baggage back in Knoxville. He's 52 years old, been a Vol forever, and the last couple years (except maybe '07) haven't been too kind to him or the UT program. Now he's got to lock all that away and become an LSU guy with the fire, imagination and ingenuity of a younger man, ESPECIALLY when it comes to combating the spread and spread-hybrid offenses. I'd have preferred a younger guy with broader experience; my first choice was Vic Keonning. But Chavis does have a good track record, if he can turn things around over the next 3-4 years he'll have done everything you could ask of a man his age.
