Wife and I booked a trip last night. Flying into LaGuardia, heading towards Boston, then west to Cooperstown and back south to fly out of LaGuardia.

Should we be taking any precautions in regards to our rental car? I’ve driven further north of these areas during snow in mid March (Burlington to Portland) without much of an issue, but unsure of road conditions a bit earlier in the year. Anyone have experience with this? Should we be good renting our usual mid-size car or do something different? TIA.

Hope for no snowstorms. You're taking 95 which can be a mess on a good day. 90 will have less traffic between MA and NY, that stretch is usually pretty quiet. The drive from Cooperstown south to the city should be easy as well.

That drive would be 100x worse weather wise than what you'd deal with for this trip. I usually spring for an AWD vehicle just to make sure I'm good in the winter driving. Generally that's some sort of SUV or minivan

February can often be the worst month for snow up here. And going through Western MA is always a crapshoot.

I appreciate the responses! Last time I road tripped we took 95 from NY to Hartford, then 84 to 90 and onward to Boston. Didn't find traffic to be too crazy. Just really keeping fingers crossed for snow. Although we could end up canceling the trip if it seems like too much trouble. I'll have to pay attention in the interim to see how the weather is shaping up.
