Tends to be true.

On my team, I can think of a few players who sat when they should have played and they had dug their own graves to a degree.

One player had been in a dispute with the coach in a prior year and left the team for a while. After he came back, the coach didn’t use him as much as he could have which was a problem as he was the second best athlete on the team at the time.

The other player had fricked up and been unable to play one game he was scheduled to start because he overslept and arrived at school too late. He made a point of finding someone else to be starter at that position as a result. Granted, that was a lost season so it wasn’t like it was costing us a playoff spot for him to make an example of him.
