Can we just trash the Prevent?

How many times have we seen the Saints go up 2 scores, then let the other team score quickly and make it a game?

During the Jim Mora era only Carl Smith prevented the Saints from winning more than the Prevent Defense.

I don’t remember seeing that from Allen in a long time (ever?). Greg Williams for sure

From what the coaches and players said after the game you won't see that crap again. They were all pissed about it. And that is a good thing.

I think he expected his veteran secondary to know to guard the perimeter and not let them constantly get out of bounds, maybe?

This was the issue IMO. They stopped the clock way too many times.

To me that was just a bad thing how they gave up that easy score at the end to make Bryce Young look better than he really is. I mean I hate when they call it the "prevent" because the only thing it's preventing is the defense from getting off the field. It's a lousy concept that needs to be done away with and teams need to go back to just playing regular base defenses at the end of games and stop this crap. Smh

Prevent is a product of a coach getting scared to lose the game. I think with time and victories a coach will get away from it and feel more confident without using it. It's been around forever, and too often we see teams switch to this and almost or even outright lose games as a result.
There is a place for the prevent, but it's rare. That's reserved for 2 or more score leads with 3 minutes left in the game and no more timeouts. That's really it.

It’s how they lost to the bucs on Monday night football last year when they were up 16-3 with 8 minutes left
