Kitchenaid Undercounter Ice Maker - not holding ice

Ran through the diagnostics and it said the Evaporator Thermistor was bad. Checked and realized the thermistor was not even connected. Its not a simple disconnect so it's likely it has been like that since we moved in (2.5 yrs ago). Plugged it back in and the error code went away. However, the machine is still struggling to hold ice and it only holds a little bit on the bottom.
Anyone have any experience with this?

How long has it been since you got it back up and running?

I noticed it started to not hold much ice. Ran a clean cycle and same thing. Ran the error diagnostics and that's when I saw the thermistor was unplugged. Plugged it in and error code went away. Basically the same symptoms after plugging it back in though but no more error codes. Its making thin ice and barely keeping but a few pieces. Doesn't seem like a full sheet is even making it onto the wire grid.
I am reading up and seeing that some people unplug the evaporator thermistor on purpose to have the system default to a 30 min cycle. Possible previous owner may have done that.

Is the ice melting and not building up or is it not producing ice fast enough? Have you cleaned it? Is the water flow restricted (old filter or kinked supply line)?

Not producing fast enough and sheet are thin/not full.
Yes I've ran a clean cycle with vinegar/water and one with afresh.
Water seems to be flowing well over the evaporator so I dont think its a water flow issue.
I am not even seeing a filter in the parts list to replace ( LINK)

There is a screw plug where the water pours in the tray to make the ice. Make sure that screw plug is tight. This happened to us once and us using the scoop must have hit it and gradually unscrewed it enough to where water was leaking out just enough to make really thin ice and then no ice at all. But we would have never noticed it.

I would bet this could be your issue op.
As you probably know the machines don’t keep the ice cold it’s just an insulated bin. So if it doesn’t make ice fast enough it won’t stay cold and all melt. Sounds like you have a water flow issue.
Definitely look into the filter also OP, that could be the issue. They are usually top right on the inside of the machine and can be a son of a gun to remove. Order the generics online they are expensive AF if not. You can find them for $12-15 each generic or pay $35 for the name brand.

Check tech sheet to change ice thickness.
