Robert Shaw was only 50 when filming and died the next year.

Crowe would be a good choice for Quint. Though almost 10 yrs older than Shaw was. Could still pull off that 'old man of the sea' part though.

Adrien Brody for Sheriff Brody. (see what I did there?)

And Hooper? Danny Masterson is no longer available. Patton Oswalt is too old and fat.

Joseph Gordon Levitt? Jay Baruchel? IDK, could go a number of different directions.

Hooper is a Marine biologist, after all. I'd think someone trending towards nerdy, sciency, geeky, but also 'from money' as Quint stated, would be better than someone with sex appeal. I've thought way too much about this.

I agree with this and for Hooper I could see Domhnall Gleeson in that role. Brody for Brody could work also.

Hmm. Jaws came out in summer 1975. Interesting that he died the next year, when he had starring roles in movies Black Sunday and The Deep (another Peter Benchley adaptation) which were released in 1977.

(He died in summer 1978, three years after Jaws came out). But yes, he was only 51 and died of a heart attack. So he was actually only about 47 when the movie was being filmed in 1974.
