Even a quality paint won't cover in one coat unless what it covers up is stain-free and similar in color. You're going to be 2-coating at a minimum.

I can't count the number of gallons of paint I've applied over the years and what you said is truth.

No matter how careful you are to try to get full coverage, there will be spots that show through and enough so that a second coat is necessary.

And it only gets worse if covering vastly different colors like dark green to light tan.
