I have no problem with thinking marino's the best. I hate the rings argument, but that's what keeps him down with media and fans.

That and the fact that after a seventeen year career he doesn't rank in the top 5 of any passing category. Sure the game has changed but Marino trails Philip Rivers in career yards and career TDs. You can make a credible argument for either stats or rings but you have to disregard both to crown Marino.

Are we playing by 70s and 80s rules? Because you could also argue the 2022 chiefs would be shell shocked the first time a wide receiver got their head taken off or Mahomes got slammed into the ground 2-3 seconds after the play and no flag was thrown.

The 1985 Bears had four players over 275 lbs. and only one over 300 lbs. That ain't scaring anyone today. I don't care what rules you're playing.

Marino set his records in 1984 and smoked the '85 Bears with a bunch of 5'9'' smurfs playing WR. Somehow they thrived in the era of ultimate badasses running around taking heads off everywhere.

I mean, no one in the modern day NFL has ever gotten the shite knocked out of them in their life. They would probably just quit and walk out of the stadium crying against fronts that average about 50 lbs. less than they're used to and DB's who are slower and 40 years behind on game evolution.

So you admit the game has changed and then choose to highlight how as an argument against Marino.

He played 17 years and retired as the career leader in yards. Only 2 people ahead of him on that list were even playing when Marino retired - Manning in his first season and Favre. Every other person played in the modern pass happy NFL.

Montana ranks 22nd on that list with Unitas at 23.

Eli Manning is 10th and Matt Ryan 7th. Vinny Testaverde is 16th.
