Anyone have any experience playing a 5some at Memorial or at Meadowbrook Farms? I have a tee time Saturday at Memorial and Sunday at MBF. I know I can just call the course but the answer is usually the same.

In the past Cinco Ranch Golf Club pretty much told us absolutely no 5somes on holiday weekends and Greatwood was pretty accommodating. I enjoy playing different courses when visiting Houston but it looks like we will have 5 at least one day.

I got an email today that Meadowbrooks water pump broke, not sure how long they might be closed.

A fivesome on a holiday weekend might be real tough unless you want to play late.

We got zero rain yesterday and Greatwood fairways are brown.

Highly unlikely MBF will let you play 5

Meadowbrook has several jacked up greens right now.

I agree, it's slow enough out there as it is.

We are in the twilight zone now because Greatwood's greens are the best in 20 years.

Well its good we got 2 times for Sunday at Greatwood. We will just cancel MBF and play 4 at Memorial.

May be unpopular opinion, but I don’t think 5somes should be allowed at any course, ever. Completely unnecessary to have that many people in a group and slows the whole course down.

This is completely group dependent. If the group keeps up with the pace of play and the group in front of them, who cares if they have 12 people in it?

I think it's because the course needs to try to prevent slow play before it happens. If you let as many people play in a group together until it becomes a problem, then the marshals, who are usually old, retired men, have more work to do to get things moving. Often times, the damage will have already been done like a traffic jam. If you limit groups to a max of 4, require everyone to have their own clubs, etc. then you prevent problems before they start.

Tour18 let me do a 5some on a Friday once but we all used the boards instead of carts.

Bay Forest in La Porte will allow fivesomes Monday-Thursday and Friday before 12pm. You can’t book a tee time for 5 but you just call and let them know.

I worked at a private club in Atlanta that took no tee times and groups could be any size so long as play was not held up behind them. Was a hell of a lot of fun watching and playing in 5, 6 and 8somes.

How is that course? It's about 15 minutes from my work. I've been thinking about getting a round in the evening sometime.

It’s very good. The lay out isn’t anything special but the condition are great and the price is good. You definitely should play it. I haven’t played since June so I’m not sure how they are doing during this summer/drought.

Greatwood has some huge cracks in the ground right now.

Played this morning.

Bopper,
How are tee boxes at Greatwood? I've got to get out and play instead of hitting inside at Golftec. Last month, I had a lot of trouble getting tees to go into the ground. If they are still like a rock, I'll stop at Academy and get a small bag of short tees.

You were right about Greatwood. The fairways were overall brown, but the greens are really very good and fast. That helps me get ready for Tahoe in 2 weeks.

Here's a picture of my ball between the fairway and cart path on 6.
