possibly Scout Lookout. Seems you might not need a permit for that if you are not doing AL.
You don't.

Obviously warmer weather would be preferred, but I’d definitely do that trip in October if at all possible.
I was in Zion two Octobers ago(mid month) and the weather was absolutely amazing. It was mid 70's and sunny. Lows in the 50's. It was perfect. That's obviously not guaranteed, but October in southern Utah is typically pretty perfect.

Great thread. Useful information. We are looking at staying in Kanab in June, 3 full days, sun-tues. Is getting a parking spot and catching a shuttle for Zion difficult?

We stayed in Kanab. It was great.
Look into Cosmic Casita on AirBNB.
2 bedrooms. Kitchen. Super clean.
Wild Thyme Cafe was a great place to eat.
Zion wasn’t t crowded for us but we went in October.

In Kanab, hit up Rocking V restaurant. Good food. Desert hippie atmosphere.
Look for the Kiva Coffee House on 12 at the top of a canyon in Escalante.

When you go to Bryce go all the way to Rainbow point first. see some bristlecone pines then head back and all the viewpoints are easy turns on the right side.
