It was much easier to enforce such measures in August 1918 considering we were in a global conflict and the Wilson administration, coupled with a Democrat-controlled Congress, had already passed draconian laws which jailed political dissidents and those who spoke out against the war.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Republicans made gains in the 1918 mid-term elections.

ETA: It must also be remembered, however, that the mortality rate for those infected by the Spanish Flu was a staggering 20%. The Wuhan Flu's mortality rate for those infected was something like 0.05%.

In 2020 they were letting people out of jail because of the virus.

Though I'm sure many would be fine with that. Release real criminals and jail non-maskers.

Spanish Flu legitimately killed 50 million people and was devastating for infants and toddlers. Far different animal.

And in the intervening years the scientific studies showed that masks do nothing to slow the spread of influenza. Yet in 2020 we ignored this and went back over 100 years. Fun times.

The Spanish Flu killed my great-great grandfather. He was only in his 20s. My great-grandfather was only a baby when he died. If he would have gotten the flu a year sooner, I may not exist.

The “I survived the Spanish Flu” t-shirts sales were off the charts.

I find it odd, but I never saw any pictures or read anything that showed or said they were wearing masks during the Spanish Flu. It wasn’t until covid hit, that I started seeing pictures and articles showing people wearing masks during the Spanish Flu.

Yes - there were communists amongst us at that time too. Thankfully, they aren’t very good at math and don’t really know what to do once any of them get in power

I don’t believe this picture. It’s either photoshopped or a recent staging. The Spanish Flu is nothing new, yet until Covid I never heard of masking back then or anything similar to what they pushed on us. This is something to normalize mandates and say “See, this isn’t the first time. Get on board.”

Fun fact - bacteria in the masks killed more than the Spanish flu did

The worst part of the Spanish Flu epidemic was that no lessons were learned for 2020.
