Concealed Carry License - Louisiana

I have a lifetime license, but I didn't provide proof of CCL training 1x every 5 years for renewal. That is on me.
If I get retrained/recertified, is it as simple as providing proof and getting my CCL reinstated? Or do I have to pay another $500 or some other additional fee for my lack of organization and timeliness?

Hopefully they get constitional carry through so we don’t have to mess with all that.

I agree, but until then, I would like to be "compliant" as much as I don't like that word.

If this does get through, would CC license still be an option? Thinking about reciprocity between states.

Too much money in renewals for this to ever pass

It’s already come very close to passing, it’s just a matter of time.

And it was pulled because of the financial hit the state police would take, if I remember correctly it was to the tune of 4 million, just like inspection stickers there is no way they will give up a revenue stream

I say it will get through so we’ll see.
It actually passed both the House and Senate in 2021 but our dickhead democratic governor vetoed it.

Let’s not forget, we had a super majority to over ride the veto and they also did absolutely nothing. They are pathetic.

They would have needed 2 Democrats to vote to overturn it, in order to get the required two-thirds vote.

I am a certified CHL instructor in Louisiana. I asked the Louisiana State Police this exact question earlier this year so am 100% certain about the answer.
When your 5 year period expires and no new training certificate is submitted, The Lifetime permit goes inactive.
All you need to do is take a course and provide a new certificate and it will be re-activated. You do not need to pay any additional fees.
But remember , every 5 years you must be retrained with a Lifetime certificate. The only advantage a Lifetime Cert gives you is you only pay money one time. That is the only benefit. I have people argue with me all of the time regarding this but the rules are clear.
Lifetime Cert also has another disadvantage. With a regular 5 year permit, when you go to buy a gun, the gun store owner has the option whether they run the background check or not. You must fill out the paperwork but most times the store owner will not actually run the background check. He legally has the option to not run it as he know that you have undergone a background check within a maximum of 5 years.
However, with a Lifetme permit he does not have the option. He must run the background check as it may have been 20 years since your last background check.
Therefore I never recommend my students get the Lifetime permit because of this disadvantage plus you must get retrained every 5 years anyway.
Just my 2 cents as a certified CHL instructor.

My understanding is yes. I like the ease of gun purchasing. Show the card, here’s your gun sir.

Even if Constitutional Carry does get passed in Louisiana, it is still beneficial to have your LA CHL (Concealed Handgun License) in 2 ways:
1) when purchasing a new gun as described earlier
2) in order to take advantage of the Reciprocity Agreements with other states so you can legally carry concealed with your LA CHP in the 38 states we have reciprocal agreements with

I just won an auction, and will have my purchase shipped to the same FFL that did a transfer for me a couple weeks ago. My best guess is that by the time the purchase ships, it will be just under a month from the time I was checked, and given a proceed.
