Your husbands girlfriend drove by and saw you were home. Sending you a message

Don’t those windows have some sort of gas in between the layers of glass?
FWIW, I had a sliding glass door shatter from the cold. It was 11 degrees out and boom no more glass.

Not sure why the downvote but a tinted window can get too hot and crack. Seen it happen quite a few times.
What that guy said.

I registered as a Democrat in Portland to avoid this from happening to my huge windows

Yes. Normally Argon because it’s a good insulator.
If they are a little older they could be krypton as well.

Is it on the west side of your house catching the afternoon sun?

House is 11 years old. Any chance the heat did anything to the gas between the glass? Looks like only outer layer of window is shattered and interior glass is intact.

South facing.

I would rule out heat just based on that.

I was more thinking hat it’s been over 100° for a month with no rain. 108° today. Can’t think of any other reason. Our section of the neighborhood gets lawn maintenance on Tuesday since we booked the same company.

The outside of the glass is under compression and the inside is under tension (I may have those backwards). There could have been a very tiny crack in the glass and as the pane heats and cools the crack can expand rapidly and blow out because it has upset the balance between the compression and tension.

You don’t have double pane windows?

We do. Thus how only the outer layer of glass is shattered.

Wouldn’t the window have shown condensation between the glass layers if that were the case.
Having a hard time finding recs for companies to repair.
