re: KnB or Woolworths...which was your go-to?

Oh, yeah. A trip to the TG&Y was the happiest shopping destination for me when I was a kid.

The toy aisle, with everything from metal tootsie-toy cars to green plastic army-men to model kits. The back aisle with the books, like Whitman story books, Little Golden Guides, and coloring books for the little 'uns. Plus, a back corner in the store filled with tropical fish in tanks, back when that was a big thing. Could find comic books in 'three-packs' there (the hidden, middle comic usually being a clunker), and various gum-cards. Best store around for a kid.

But, I can't deny Woolworth's had a good advantage with its lunch-counter, where you could sit up at the long bar and get a hamburger and a coke.
