I know cruises are trashy etc! We just booked this one for Mardi Gras leaving out of New Orleans for 7 days. I haven’t ever been on a norweigan cruise, just curious what to expect. I’ve only been on one cruise in my life about 15 years ago.

I have taken the NCL cruise out of New Orleans. The ship was the Spirit at the time.
We had a lot of fun.
I like Norwegian because I like the specialty restaurants on the ship.

The family and I also booked that cruise recently, the Mrs and I haven’t been on a cruise since an Alaskan cruise almost 17 years ago. Looking forward to it. There is a FB group devoted to the Breakaway that has some good information. There is also a FB group for our specific cruise but that one is relatively small and doesn’t seem to have much useful information at the time.

Did the Greek isles back in May on this ship. It's a cruise so expect cruise stuff. But, and this is probably because it was the Greek Isles, the clientele was not the typical you hear about on the Carnival booze cruise. Very few kids, everyone was friendly and nice, it was quite enjoyable. Boat is very well maintained. We didn't do any specialty dining, did all that on our own dime off the ship. The food was pretty good at the buffet and the "free" restaurants. Bartenders were fast and drinks were good. The shows sounded cheesy so didn't bother with those. Dueling pianos were OK. Cover bands were good. No big complaints other than no comedian acts. Honestly, we were so tired after getting it all day on the various islands that night time entertainment wasn't high on the priority list. Actually, booked Norwegian again for Alaska next year (not the Breakaway, think its an older ship up there).

NCL Breakaway is way nicer than a Carnival cruise out of New Orleans which is probably what you are worried about getting.

We did Breakaway last spring out of Nola and it was a great experience

NCL is way nicer than most of the big names. If that slip has the Prime restaurant then go. It's pretty damn good. Maybe it's called Ocean Prime. But whatever, eat there.

Do you mean the prime steakhouse?
They call it Cagney’s Steakhouse.
It is excellent.

My favorite is Le Bistro French Restaurant.

The Italian and Asian places are also very good.

No man. Cagneys sucks.

The bigger NCL ships gave a seafood restaurant called Ocen Prime.

Le Bistro is ok but Ocean Prime is way better.

ETA--ok it's called Ocean Blue. It's by far their best specialty dining option.

My aunt and uncle love NCL. They rave about it all of the time. They say The Haven is totally worth it if you have the money. You’ll definitely have a good time.

That being said, they did not care for the Breakaway’s theming. It’s all NYC all over the place. It’s not like a typical cruise ship with a tropical or hotel-like atmosphere.
