A Playoff will rip the heart out of college football...

Say goodbye to conference rivalries played at the end of the season when a berth is guaranteed...
Sitting starters etc...not the college football I want to see.
The season is a playoff, especially as the SEC has proven a one-loss team can do after regrouping - the two-loss NC was an anomaly that I am happy for.

A plus 1 would still keep every game important and set up some awesome post-season matchups

The season is a playoff? That shite is old, and a complete crock of shite.

Disagree - there are a couple of situations that do not bear this out - Auburn etc, but you cannot say that the two best teams have not played for it after conference championships knock same conference teams out.

The best playoff system in sports.

It's really quite simple. You could keep the "heart" in college football and still use a playoff to determine the best team. Use the BCS to rank the teams throughout the year. The top 8 teams are seeded 1 plays 8, 2 plays 7, etc. Use the Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Fiesta for the first round. Upgrade two of the best non-BCS bowls (Capitol One, maybe the Cotton, or create two new bowls) Rotate the bowls just like we do now with two bowls acting as the second round playoff. Finally, you have your National Championship game. End of story. To win the national championship, a team has to play 2 more games. Big Deal. Something needs to be done about this shitty system we have now.

...but not all conference champions have a chance to compete for the title. That is the whole problem. If there is parity in the conference with the most talent, no team from that conference may play for the championship. Meanwhile, the Big-ten champion gets in with a much easier schedule.

we have won 2 MNC in the system. im not to mad.
but i think the plus-1 makes the most sense. it lets the BCS keep their money. money is the only thing holding the system back

I think the argument for this is reducing non-conference games in the season. Good luck with this if you are using current ranking system to determine your top 8. I think that this goes right back to what we have. Making these guys play this many games really takes away from having college athletes play the game.

Granted - force confeence championships. Big-10 has gotten killed two times and USC got beat by UT. The strength is with the conferences with CG's

A team that finishes #9 in the BCS and gets left out of the playoff has a lesser argument than an Auburn team that goes undefeated in the SEC and gets left out of the national championship. You wouldn't have to shorten the regular season. The players would only have to play two more games. They do it in every other college sport. Why not football? This just makes more sense to me.

I think that football being football answers this.
Also, you will NEVER again see an undefeated SEC Champ not go to NC. LSU and FLA have solidified this precedent. Even though our conference is "down" this year, we are recognized as worthy year in and year out of producing after going through our league.
