Works With Nest is sunsetting. What does this mean and what’s a workaround?

I just received the below message through my Nest app. We use our Nest thermostats with Alexa and through the app.
Does this mean Alexa won’t work and I need to get Google Home?
Below this message was a hyperlink saying “Works With Nest.”
When I clicked it, it shows one active connection with Amazon Alexa.

Works with Nest important reminder.
This is a reminder that as of September 29, 2023, Nest will no longer support Works with Nest. Any Works with Nest connection in the Nest app will stop working on that date. Until September 28, 2023 11:59 PM, you can continue using your Works with Nest connections as you do now.
Go to g.co/nest/wwn2023 for help related to:
• Migrating to Works with Google Home
• Creating automations with the script editor
• Switching to the Google Home Alexa skill
• Other WWN partner connections
• Nest and Google Assistant migration
You can also start reviewing all your affected connections in the Nest app.

Google's product development and expansion of the NEST brand has been terrible. They have only removed or neutered functionality.
We have had a nest Thermostat for years, added a nest cam over the garage, and a doorbell cam about 5 years ago. Been really happy with them, but the software sucks. It takes minutes to pull my doorbell up on my phone which totally ruins its ability to function in live mode when someone rings the doorbell.

What does this mean
It means we all need to stop trusting these companies with our lives. I realize we aren't talking about major stuff here, but it's been a steady stream of services that we rely on getting shut down.
Dive into Home Assistant. There will be a bit of a learning curve, but it is far more powerful than the commercial options and no one can ever take it away from you.
