A franchise legend is coming over to help the New Orleans Saints from behind the scenes, with Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune reporting that former defensive tackle La’Roi Glover has been added to the team’s think tank, at least for the preseason.
“The Saints will have a special addition to their coaching staff for the preseason: La’Roi Glover will be the team’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching fellow. Glover is a Saints Hall of Famer and one of the most decorated defensive linemen in franchise history.”
Glover played in the NFL from 1996 to 2008. He played for four teams, the most with the Saints, who had him on the roster for five years — from 1997 to 2001. During his time with the Saints as a player, Glover played a total of 79 games (65 starts) and collected 50.0 sacks with 11 forced fumbles, an interception, and a pass defended. He also amassed 218 solo tackles and 41 tackles for losses.
Glover, who last saw a game in the NFL in the 2008 season with the St. Louis Rams, will now look to help the Saints with his defensive expertise. The 49-year-old Glover has prior experience coaching in the NFL, as he served as the New York Jets assistant defensive line coach from 2017 to 2018 and also served under the same capacity for the Los Angeles Chargers from 2019 to 2020. Glover is also currently a defensive line coach for XFL franchise St. Louis BattleHawks.
The Saints are looking to polish further their defense that ranked ninth in the entire league in 2022 with just 20.3 points allowed per game and fifth with just 314.8 total yards surrendered per contest.
He was a load. In 2000 he led the the league in sacks with 17. Anyone remember the commercial with him running alongside the Public Service bus?

As Abdul D. Tentmakur would say, "He's bad, bad Leeroy Glover/ He's one quarterback sacking mother!"
