The premise of the thread is that Rapinoe and her squaddies "hate America" because they want to change something that they see as a failure of our current system to live-up to the promise of the Constitution and/or because they choose a tactic that upsets the sensibilities of the "patriotic."
"Certain persons" cannot seem to accept that they may even have a legitimate goal ... just like the Suffragettes and the Freedom Marchers.
You see a "straw man," because you do not understand the concept of a straw man. What you are ACTUALLY seeing is a damned-good analogy.
Do I personally agree with the premise that biological men should be able to play women's sports? Or that the salaries of female athletes should be artificially inflated to match the market salaries of the male athletes? No, in both cases. I have said so ... repeatedly.
But I have the maturity to understand that disagreeing with me does not equate to "hating this country."
