Look< do whatever mental gymnastics you have to do. We deliberately targeted civilians. We did. It was calculated. Great, it worked out. It (May have) saved lives. Ok. I’m fine with that. But we deliberately killed civilians. Just as we (and others) have done throughout history.

Both cities were centers of industry. Hiroshima was textiles and Nagasaki was steel.

Welcome to modern industrialized warfare, it’s only been around well over 100 years.

They started it we ended it. End of story in my opinion.
We were training the guys still in Europe to go to the pacific to fight a second war in the jungle. We would have lost so many more of our guys had we not done it. We didn’t pick the fight. It saved our guys from a horrid enemy under horrid conditions. But the only way to make them stop was to use drastic measures. An invasion would have led to every man/woman/child trying to kill our guys. Honestly both sides probably saved lives by it ending that way.

Do I like that we killed civilians? Hell no. But in an invasion it would have been much higher. When your dealing with an enemy like that who doesn’t care about death, there is no easy answer.

This. If folks were saying the firebombing of cities, from literally going down a list in an almanac, was a war crime, then maybe, but those two targets were not a war crime.
