Nowadays we call them influencers, a term I dislike, but it’s no different people capitalizing on their recognition that’s been around forever.

It is called marketing a product and (near) celebrity endorsements.
He owns the brand/company and thinks that having these young athletes endorse/rep his product will increase adaptation and sales.

Its called advertising and brand marketing. People see Angel Reese and Marvin Harrison Jr. (with a gazillion followers) drinking ZOA and they buy the product, sales fly through the roof, and Coca Cola sees this and looks at their financials, then buys ZOA for $2 billion!
