While I was not a fan of the hire of the co-DC's in the offseason, is it safe to assume that a lot of the secondary problems can be attributible to the fact that all of our CB's that are currently playing had no meaningful PT last year?

NO

I hate this arguement. Having inexperienced CBs is no excuse for this bad of a defense. We are LSU. We have been a recruiting giant for this entire decade. We bring in good players. We have very good CBs on this roster. We have very good LBs on this roster. We have great DL on this roster. But Malleveto couldnt use them correctly if their lives depended on it.

We have a lot more defensive problems than just secondary

What about all the subsitutions coming in late

Plays coming in late thus causing players to be out of assignment

Players dont have trust in DCs and def team morale is low.

not to mention the soft zone and giving the WR 10 yds of cushion

Damn ... I couldn't have said it better myself.

We have very good CB's who have never played a snap before this year. LSU has had Webster/Daniels, and then Jackson/Zenon. My only point is that we don't have two shut down corners yet becuase they're young. When the light comes on in a few of these kids I think a lot of the bugs will get worked out on defense. I guess we'll see.

what about the lack of pressure on the QB?

what about the lack of stunts or twists by the dline?

what about def player morale and having no confidence in the DCs?

what about the mass confusion 5 seconds before snap because a play hasnt been called yet? Problem is still occurring 11 games into season

What about all the substitutions causing even more confusion? Problem is still occurring 11 games into season.

DEFENSE-20 returning letterman-7full time starters, the only thing I can add to whats been said and the defensive play is we have not improved from day 1, and we have regressed at all positions (PITIFUL)TJ,KP,those who came back for there senior season to improve,to help there draft stock have gotten worse (what a mess)

It is rare when a team can put on one defense a collection of seniors like Jackson, Zenon, Steltz, Highsmith, and Dorsey. These experienced young men made those around them play better. They helped coach on the field. Add to that some of the Sr. leadership on offense and we see what it takes to win a NC. I am not sure but that we may have better athletes this year than last, although not as well conditioned. But it is senior leadership that wins championships.

But great senior leadership and NC notwithstanding, the defense last year never could stop the spread. This year is no exception with the spread and cannot seem to pressure the QB.

I just found and joined this site while looking for some discussion around our defense this year. Good...now I can quit beating my head against drywall in the basement. It has been simply painful to watch an LSU defense this bad with coverage schemes. If Jarrett Lee were playing against LSU he would put up All-American numbers! It's not all his fault - I have not seen an LSU QB with such consistent bad starting field position since Chad Loup. LSU has historically played with young DB's, but the fade route has not been this poorly defended since the Dinardo days. The absence of the now Nebraska head coach in our D is huge and obvious - the replacement Def Coord's are Busch league.
