The archbishop of York has suggested that opening words of the Lord’s Prayer, recited by Christians all over the world for 2,000 years, may be “problematic” because of their patriarchal association.

In his opening address to a meeting of the Church of England’s ruling body, the General Synod, Stephen Cottrell dwelt on the words “Our Father”, the start of the prayer based on Matthew 6:9–13 and Luke 11:2–4 in the New Testament.

“I know the word ‘father’ is problematic for those whose experience of earthly fathers has been destructive and abusive, and for all of us who have laboured rather too much from an oppressively patriarchal grip on life,” he said.

Anglicans, so probably real.

As Tucker said, they're not even Christians anymore in any doctrinal sense.

Is that the take away? How about our Heavenly Father is good and not abusive, or that He shows unconditional love to us through the redemption offered through Jesus?

We are rebels deserving of damnation, but God loved us while we were still sinners and sent His son to die for us.

This is the type of comment that comes from a rejection of God’s Word.

LINK ]What Does the Bible Say About God as Our Father? - Crossway.org

quote:

But in the New Testament, although God remains holy and majestic in our eyes, Jesus adds a strikingly clear emphasis on God as Father—both his Father and our Father (John 20:17). It is Jesus who calls God “Abba, Father” (Mark 14:36). It is Jesus who teaches us to pray to God as our Father (Matt. 6:9). It is the Spirit of the Son who leads us into intimacy with God as our own Abba Father (Gal. 4:6). Now we know that, as our Father, God cares for us and provides for us (Matt. 6:25–34). As our Father, he hears and answers our prayers (Matt. 7:7–11). As our Father, he disciplines us (Heb. 12:3–11). As our Father, he receives us and forgives us and rejoices over us when in repentance we come home to him (Luke 15:11–32). That God the Father has made himself God our Father means that he is personally, emotionally, and even sacrificially involved with us.

It really is on the fast track. It’s amazing how quick so many denominations (Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Catholic, etc.) have become apostate. These are incredible (and exciting) times.

True. The Church of England, The Episcopal Church here in the US, and others have either jettisoned all that is distinctly Christian doctrinally or so changed the meanings of liturgical words and worship and theological teachings that they have become heretical.

I am always compelled to defend the fairly numerous numbers of Anglicans who have not bowed the knee to Ba’al and adhere to the Faith as handed down from the Apostles, what has been believed at all times by all Christians.
Conservative. Traditional. Liturgical. Biblical.

To be fair, the PCUSA has been bad for years, but most Presbyterian denominations are still fighting the good fight for orthodoxy and Christ-centered faithfulness to the Scriptures.

Right. Or, subsequently rename the prayer.

The time to turn the other cheek has come and completely gone.

Societal problems stem largely from renegade males at war against God and his Kingdom who abdicate their duties and responsibilities towards God, their families, and their neighbors. Most abusive and destructive fathers come from within these ranks.

The problem is not God or a patriarchy.
It’s sinful, fallen men. The archbishop is dangerously misinformed, misguided, and mistaken. He’s leading his sheep into dangerous water.

Sadly the top of the Catholic church now worship the devil. I am Catholic. These priest and cardinals and the false Pope are not. Just like most of the republicans in DC are really Dims.
