Headed to Dallas in August to see Metallica with some friends from college. Haven’t been to Dallas in 20 years and am looking for recs for where to stay. Concerts are at Jerryworld but will need things to do before and after the show.

TIA

This may not help but I'll also be attending those shows

I decided to stay in Dallas closer to Deep Ellum not Arlington. I haven't been to Jerryworld in 10 years but there wasn't much to around the stadium back then and all the hotels were unreasonably priced to me.

Will have to trek to the stadium for the shows but for time in between should have more to do in the city.

I will be there too for both shows but live in Dallas. They have a Sheraton & brand new Loews within walking distance. The Texas Live complex is amazing & the Rangers will be playing at home Friday-Sunday that entire weekend along with the concerts at Jerry World on Friday & Sunday so parking is not going to be fun. There is also a Hyatt Place & Wyndham that is a short drive. I have no idea if all of these are sold out or not with both 100K each night for Metallica & a most likely full house for all 3 Rangers games. If you are staying on site for the weekend the Texas Live complex has all you need.

Definitely Texas Live
Plenty of food and drink to hang out before concert and you can walk to the Cowboys stadium after although it is right by the Rangers ballpark but odds are you are gonna have to park and walk anyway

closer to Deep Ellum

Well, Deep Ellum goes through cycles of being really fun and then a lot of shootings. We are is shooting mode these days so unless you have a specific place you want to go, I wouldn't go down there to walk around and bar hop, it's just too ghetto. I would go to lower Greenville or Henderson street. Tell me what scene you are looking for and I'll try to help. As for Texas Live, it's a corporate suburban fratty scene and if that's your thing then it's great.

We’re a group of mid 30s married white dudes. All like craft beer, good cocktails and food. Whatever scene that is haha

Bishop Arts area in Oak Cliff fits that bill. Lots of bars & restaurants in a walkable historic area. Boulevardier for bistro food. Nova for cocktails and pretty good food, Eno's for pizza and good craft beer selection, Lee Hazy Oswald IPA is a good one. They have an upstairs bar if it's crowded downstairs.Texas Theater where Oswald was arrested has a cool bar in the lobby and shows movies. Odd Fellows for breakfast/ brunch. Other good cocktail bars are Tejas and Atlas. Just a 5 minute Uber from Bishop Arts is Manhattan Project brewery which does really solid beers and has a great tasting room.
Lower Greenville and Henderson street is another good area, and where I live, but Bishop Arts is closer to Arlington.

With the rangers in town and Texas Live it’ll be better to stay in Arlington than Dallas.

I have been to Jerrtworld once and that was for the LSU-Oregon game. It is the nicest stadium I have ever been to.

We stayed at the Hyatt in Arlington near the stadium. We went in to Dallas one day to see Dealey Plaza and the Kennedy Assassanation Museum which was interesting, but for nightlife we mostly went to Fort Worth and hung around the Stockyards.
Favorite restaurant was Lonesome Dove. And Billy Bob's was fun.
