I was gifted some fresh okra and wanted to try something different. So I decided, why not cook them like buffalo wings?

What you’ll need:
Okra
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper
Garlic powder
Franks or Your favorite wing sauce
Ranch or other dipping sauce if you want.

Toss your okra in a bowl with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder

Cook your okra like you would chicken wings. You could bread them if you want, but I like naked for simplicity. I used my air fryer and cooked at 400 for 8-10 minutes, shaking them up halfway through.

This is just a minute or so in the air fryer.

This is how much I browned them.

Toss them in your favorite hot sauce. I used Franks.

Serve with whatever dipping sauce you like.

Enjoy!

They came out really good. Would be an easy app for parties.

Friend,

Your creation looks good. I do not like chicken wings, believing them to be glorified chicken necks, suitable for crabbing but not human consumption. However, I am amenable to trying this recipe. What is an air fryer? Can I try this is a cast iron with olive oil? Regardless, thank you for your creativity and sharing it with us.

Yours,

Would eat. Do they keep a crunchy texture?

I usually air fry after slicing in half lengthwise. I would love to save a step, so I will give this method a try.

I usually like garlic Parmesan wings, but maybe I’ll try something else.

Yes. They maintain crisp on the outside. You can cook to whatever crispness you like. I kind of like how the inside is still tender this way. I didn’t find it slimy.

I’ve done chopped okra in the air fryer before and it gets a tad too dry. This saves a step and they come out better IMO.

Darla, sprinkling the outside in Parmesan before cooking may be pretty damn good too!

Nice. I can feel a trip to the farmer's market coming on.

Horrible horrible take.

I get it though. Pretty sure I know who you are IRL. You’re a writer/critic and have created this personality on TD.

But your best stuff is when you’re not trying so damn hard.

You could. But it would probably be better on the grill or in the oven under the broiler. Or the fryer of course.

I didn't use the wing sauce, just EVOO, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Cooked for 10 minutes in the air fryer. The okra was very good, but be sure to pick smaller pods.
