The Spyder line is notorious for paint chipping issues, especially on the older models.
I heard that from someone a while back when I was looking at putters. Ever since then I've noticed that every time I look through the used putters at any shops, the spyders always look like they have been neglected. I've heard numerous people claim that they baby their putter and always have the head cover on etc. but they still get the paint chipping. It's hard to believe for a premium priced club.

Yeah unfortunately it's true. I've owned putters from $35, up to $2K. It's the one club in my bag that I will baby, and the same thing happened to me with a couple Spyders. It's a paint failure.
In this day and age of the arms race for new releases of clubs, there's a lack of QC. TaylorMade seems to have it's share. Now days I tend to buy from smaller brands that specifically focus on just putters, or putters/wedges
