Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, has signed a bill that expressly prohibits sober living facilities from allowing residents to possess or use medical marijuana, even if the patient is certified by a doctor to legally use cannabis therapeutically in accordance with state law. All other doctor-prescribed pharmaceutical medications may be permitted, however.

The governor signed the legislation, SB 210, on Tuesday—and he separately gave final approval to a hemp regulations measure that bans the sale of legal smokeless hemp products to people under 21.

Under the newly enacted SB 210, applicants who are seeking licensing to operate recovery residences under the state Department of Children and Families will need to affirm that they do not permit the use of cannabis, which “includes marijuana that has been certified by a qualified physician for medical use.”

But residents may continue to use other pharmaceutical drugs prescribed by doctors, so the law explicitly singles out medical marijuana.

Battling marijuana, especially medical MJ prescribed by a Dr, is such a losing battle for any GOP candidate.

I hate marijuana but this is the type of bad move I would expect from a shitty corrupt Louisiana politician.

I think Ron is on record saying MJ is bad and is against legalization.

I don't smoke it but IDC if it's legal or not

The powers that be don’t like marijuana because they can’t profit from it. Big Ron is controlled by them.

Im looking at the first line of the story and it says sober living facilities, so basically rehab. Im not against weed but I am ok with not allowing weed at rehab facilities.

To addicts. You don't prescribe addictive substances to addicts. It's a mistake. And yes, marijuana is addictive. Just like alcohol, cocaine, opiates and gambling.

You don’t like a conservative doing conservative things. Just admit it.

What’s next? Skyscreaming about him not catering to the gays?

He’s also made hugely popular moves on marijuana:

quote:

Shortly after Governor Ron DeSantis took office in January, he called on the Florida legislature to send a bill to his desk that would legalize medical marijuana by March 15. On March 18, 2019, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law legislation legalizing smokable cannabis.

quote:

Over 70 percent of Florida voters approved medical marijuana in 2016…I have honored my commitment…to dismiss the state’s appeal…which had held the prior law to be unconstitutional.
—Governor DeSantis, statement to media

quote:

Patients will be allowed to use telehealth to renew physician approvals for medical marijuana, under a bill signed Monday by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The bill (HB 387) also could help Black farmers get valuable medical-marijuana licenses after years of delays.

Tell that to all of the addicts and Drs that have used Suboxone for years to ween off of opioids.

What is conservative about this position? Be specific.

MJ is no longer a conservative issue. Only people that care about MJ being legal or not are boomers.
