California's Black reparations task force concludes its historic 2 years of work

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Members of California's Black reparations task force were set to present their historic two-year report to state lawmakers Thursday, challenging critics to read the hefty tome and reconsider redress for the descendants of slavery.

“This book of truth will be a legacy, will be a testament to the full story,” said Lisa Holder, a civil rights attorney and task force member. “Anyone who says that we are colorblind, that we have solved the problem of anti-Black ... racism, I challenge you to read this document.”

---------------------------------
An advisory group in San Francisco recommended that qualifying Black adults receive a $5 million lump-sum, guaranteed annual income of at least $97,000 and personal debt forgiveness. San Francisco supervisors are supposed to take up the proposals later this year.

--------------------------------
The panel did not recommend a fixed dollar amount for financial redress, but endorsed economic methodologies to calculate what is owed for decades of overpolicing, disproportionate incarceration and housing discrimination. Initial calculations pegged California's potential cost at more than $800 billion — more than 2.5 times the state's annual budget. The estimated cost was cut to $500 billion in a later report, though no explanation was made about the change.

The panel has recommended prioritizing elders for financial compensation.

Economists recommended nearly $1 million for a 71-year-old Black person who lived all their life in California — or $13,600 per year — for health disparities that shorten the average life span.

Black people subjected to aggressive policing and prosecution in the “war on drugs” from 1971 to 2020 could each receive $115,000 if they lived in California throughout that period, or more than $2,300 for each year.

The war on drugs wasn't what fricked up the black community. The endless stream of drugs that flowed into black communities.....fricked up black communities.

Then defund the CIA and convert that money to reparations.

Rinse and repeat with all other alphabet soup agencies.

No one has ever explained reparations to me in a way that made sense. If you were a former slave, yes, take $5 million and live comfortably the rest of your life. But no one today has had to suffer that hardship and on the flip side, no one alive who isn’t black is responsible for what their ancestors did.

They should have kept on with the meetings until after voting day but now they have given the blacks to much time to realize they ain't getting crap.

Then it’s in order to take away generational planter wealth and, while we’re at it, all inherited money. Your rules.

Their labor was worth something, and it’s been analyzed. We can waste energy arguing about it when the real discussion we should have is how to cut the check.

If they want reparations they should sue the African tribes that sold their ancestors.

I'd be ok with America matching African lawsuit money, dollar for dollar, so long as progs also demonize those African bloodlines who profited off slavery like they do whites and America in general.

Not create a machine that can alter history where the state of California legalized slavery, that's for damn sure.

Well the good news is that we aren’t debating that.

Correct.
The individual who worked.
No one alive today has done anything but reep the same benefits as every other American born citizen.
Complete madness.

Something that'd be interesting... Say your great, great, great grandfather was a slave, therefore you're entitled to 5 million dollars.

But your dad was convicted of murdering someone, so your 5 million now goes to that family.

Or, maybe, your dad was a drug dealer, and his 'business' is tied to the deaths of several people. That 5 mil goes to their family now.

Your grandfather stole my grandfather's bike? I'll take my cut, with interest of course because you know interest was added into these figures.

As long as we're working to solve historical injustices...

Of course none of it makes sense. The sad part is a shitload of black people in that state actually think it's going to happen.

And those same people should get into Harvard according to the skyscreamers today
