Sounded strange until we hunted over a pig feed lot and he wasn't lying. The pigs were on our birds as soon as they hit the ground.

X2. We had half dozen pigs that were huge fighting over dove, pigeons, and parakeets that hit the deck.

Went with pointers few years back. If I go again it won’t be with them. Don’t feel like going into all the details
Also it was still an unbelievable trip, but they had some BS with them

How is the economic situation down there effecting the prices when you go out to eat/sight see?

My insight is to have USD/Peso/CC with you. Can get unbelievable deals but what the merchants take is so variable. Also, some give different rates for 100/50/20/10. They don’t like bills below 10. Inspect bills carefully for any imperfections, handwriting/folds/tears/stains - they won’t accept USD with any of those.

For instance get there and convert some money to pesos at the blue rate - about double the official rate. We went to restaurant in Mendoza province and had 7 course meal with wine pairing that cost $100pp bc I had to use CC. If I had pesos it would have only cost me $50pp.

They were basically the fun police and after every hunt they had some bs they’d make up to try and make us give them money for feeling bad. One time they said our group shot an eagle, it was a buzzard. Another day they said that some lady heard us shout pussy and that she was their biggest customer etc etc. We were very respectful and would never do either of the above

Also they fricked up our lodging and had us double booked. We were in some sort of hotel and they had other families there, but it was like they couldn’t come out of their rooms when we’re were there. It was like some drug lord shite

Also the guy that shot the buzzard didn’t mean to. He’s not the most experienced hunter and it flew in front of his shot on some doves. He immediately apologized and the buzzard flew off

And they would only pick up about 30 of the birds we shot to cook. All the fields we hunted were littered with dove carcasses

Do you recall which lodge you went to? Was it just for doves?

Just for doves and we didn't technically stay at a lodge. We were supposed to, but ended up having to stay, at least what I can best describe as, a hotel.
Very large building with hallways and an abundance of rooms. Two of us each had a room that had two queen beds and a shitter. There were other people staying there, but it seemed like only a few and that they knew not to bother with us.
With all that said it was still a great trip, but I would definitely look for a different outfitter.

We're in a weird spot for next summer with Pointer. A buddy put the trip together and we have 12 guys paid up for a mixed bag hunt. They are trying to lock us into this season's shell rates ($26 per box) for next summer, which is a deal breaker given that they are ramping up shell production in Argentina as we speak.

I met the shell distributor down there last year and we've kept in touch. He assures me that the shortage is temporary and they expect to be back in the $13-$15 range next summer. I also learned that the estancias pay between $7-$9 per box of shells...interesting stuff.

Weird, the info he just sent my buddy for next year was $15/box.

Yep. That IS in fact what the info that they send out says (also doesn't say anything about prices being subject to change."

We did 3 nights in Mendoza and 3 nights dove hunting in Cordoba. Much better spa amenities in Mendoza than in Cordoba area.
