Richard Pryor.

In his day, one of the funniest humans alive. Tapes, not pod cast or cds, listening to Black man meets Dracula etc. was belly laugh hilarious. His profanity was cutting edge and fit him. All black comedians tried to emulate him, but most just cussed thinking that was funny instead of having funny jokes. Like great music, the best comedy came from that era, before the counter culture was usurped by the cancel culture.

The John Mulaney skits on SNL mocking catchphrase comedians is perfect imo.

Most of these catchphrase comedians are terrible and worse than open mic people…Shucky Ducky, Hamburger Jones, etc. I am amazed they ever had careers.

Not a catchphrase comedian, but they also mocked Dane Cook, and I never understood his appeal.

Sam Kinison is revered, but I suspect his material is extremely dated. Bobcat Goldwait, too.

I was never a fan of Carlos Mencia, either.
