Suggestions on a last minute family vacation the week after July 4? Kids are 4 and 7, looking for a drive from New Orleans under or around 8 hours. Thinking Gatlinburg at moment…..Any help?

For kids that age, Gatlinburg would be fine. Stop in Chattanooga on the way.

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is a great vacation for kids that age. It may be a little hot, but its hot here too.
Do Dollywood, go karts, shows, and eat all the pancakes and chocolate they can handle. Ride the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster on Wears Valley Rd. If they are up for it do the hike to Laurel Falls. Its shady and not far to a great waterfall. Your 4 year old should be able to handle it. Last time we were there we walked the skybridge in Gatlinburg, it was kind of meh. There is a nice aquarium in Gburg as well. Would be a good break for some AC.
I recommend hitting one of the Chocolate Monkey shops along the parkway in PF. The kids will love it.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge is "what everyone does"... They have plenty of similar alternatives that you can do that may be less touristy and fun.
Off the top of my head
-Arkansas
-Austin area (Hill country)
-Highlands, NC
-Blue Ridge, GA area
-St. Augustine, FL
-Dallas, TX
-Asheville, NC
-Atlanta, GA
Lots to do. Love last min trips, those are usually the best ones. Enjoy

San Antonio has Six Flags, Sea World, iFly indoor skydiving (not sure about the 4 year old), Andretti carts/arcade. Book a dolphin swim or other animal encounter at Sea World. Plus the Alamo and the river walk. You can get out of the city and see caves, a rodeo, and maybe even tubing a river (again, not sure on the 4 year old). It will be hot though.
You can always do Houston, catch a baseball game. Then spend a couple of days at Galveston with the beach and boardwalk. Schlitterbahn waterpark in Galveston, etc.

I was thinking San Antonio as well.
We did this one a few years back- stayed on the River Walk and did day trips to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, Gruene,
explored the Natural Bridge Caverns, and hit Sea World as well. It will be hot!

Gatlinburg is about a 10 hrs drive if lucky . There’s a lot of traffic and construction up that way .
Blue ridge GA
Hot springs Arkansas
Broken bow Oklahoma
Fredrickburg Texas
Miramar Florida
Inlet beach Florida
Grayton Beach Florida
Can’t go wrong with these areas if you can find a place

San Antonio area is better for kids. Fredericksburg is for adults.
Is there anything at Broken Bow besides lake stuff? Most people I know who have been rented Airbnb's and fished, skied, and stuff like that. What is there to do there?
