I can't figure out how to do scripts on gimp at all. all mine end up looking like hammered horse shite. I just capture the image with skitch and use their script program. If you have a apple I suggest that method. skitch is a apple only free program.

If you can change the opacity levels on gimp without rasterizing, do that. Come to think of it, I'm not sure you have to rasterize a text layer to change the opacity although I know for sure you have to rasterize it to distort or skew a text layer. 'Rasterizing' is making a text layer editable like a normal layer.
