According to the Fox News Poll, 57 percent of Americans say the debt limit should only be increased if spending cuts are included. Just 27 percent said the debt ceiling should be lifted without additional requirements and 13 percent said the debt limit should not be increased and the U.S. should default on its debt.

If, in fact, the United States defaults on its debt before a deal can be reached to raise the debt ceiling — bearing in mind that House Republicans already passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling and avoid default — more Americans would blame President Biden than Republicans in Congress by a margin of 47 percent to 44 percent.

NO...JUST NO ! The debt limit is insane. The Govt spending needs to be reigned in, the pork need to be cut, and the needless/insane spending for anything but Vital Essentials needs to end.

DC needs to be put on a budget, like most of the Citizens here !

STOP the money laundering in Ukraine, STOP giving illegal aliens crossing the border thousands of dollars, and cut the Federal Agencies back to vital personnel only ! Every Federal Agency we have, which is WAY too many, could cut their personnel by half and still be efficient. Cut the free handouts and force people able to work to do so.

NONE of that will happen, but it SHOULD !

Ok cool but this money has already been spent. Either we increase the debt limit or we default on the bill for the dinner weve already eaten. Id prefer to think the US isn't a deadbeat like that.

Honestly the idea of the debt limit doesn't make sense. Pay your bills, but also don't order so much. I found it odd though I read in a thread the other day someone who no doubt is against raising the debt was also against cutting social security and Medicare. That doesn't make sense to me

Too late ! The entire world is laughing at us. They laugh at our potus, they laugh at our demented lgbtq/trans/pedophile culture....they laugh at everything about us.

So let it default, FIX THE PROBLEM, then rebuild the economy, bringing it back better and stronger. The only way the clowns in DC will learn anything is if they're FORCED to learn it.

But hey, who really cares.....it's a runaway train destined for a massive derailment.

90% of Americans probably have no clue what the debt ceiling is.

The same could be said for DC. In reality, the "debt ceiling" is nothing more than a fictitious number manipulated by those in power. There is no accountability on spending, as evidenced by the Ukraine money laundering debacle, so the entire US Govt Corporation is nothing more than a huge Monopoly Game with players who have no accountability, or reckoning.

The federal government is a deadbeat by its nature. It produces nothing, generates revenue by taking it from those who do produce, and always, always, always spends more of your money than they can take from you at any given time. Then it pays its excess bills by taking out loans in perpetuity, and then more loans to pay that debt. At some point soon the interest on loans will exceed tax revenue. It already exceeds what we spend on defense.

Correct. Tie the debt ceiling increase to spending cuts. Because it's the only cliff that every partisan wants to avoid.

By whom? Any of the Republicans currently in the House? Doubtful.

So we can never cut spending because some previous congress already passed a budget?

Please don't vote.

60% support cuts. The problem is that is generic support. When the cuts are spelled out, the public gets fired up. “Cut the other guys program, not mine”. The public likes spending and the Congress likes to send.

This is an insane poll. 57% support what House Republicans have done but 44% would blame them? Clown world.

I'm guessing the congress over the prior year. If the Republican congressman didn't advocate for cuts then the spending is on them too. Like I said earlier I heard it mentioned in more than one thread that one of DeSantis's faults was advocating for cutting social security and Medicare, two of the largest expenditures of the federal government. That should tell you everything you need to know about how serious some are about cuts.

I don't know why that means no cuts can occur either, not sure where that comes from.
