Going in July and looking for a great AirBnb or small beachfront hotel.
Bringing our 2 sons, 14 and 17 for 8 days, thinking about staying 4 days in each.
TIA

I just stayed at Beach Haven in PB.
It was fine. Hot tub, pool, and walking distance to beaches and California burritos.

The Cheese Shop is a cool place to get a sandwich.

There was a Hawaiian themed spot in la Jolla that was tasty and had a nice view. Dukes.
Lots of cool speakeasy bars. But that's not for the kids.

La Valencia hotel has beachside rooms. Try sushi on the rock.

I am actually leaving tomorrow for La Jolla. I would love to hear any and all recommendations from people on local watering holes, restaurants, and must do activities.

Check out Raised By Wolves.
Pretty niche speakeasy in La Jolla.
It's in a mall, which is weird.. but neat.

¡salude tacos! Was pretty solid.
Kind of in the "cholo" area of San Diego. But it felt safe and was good food and drinks.

Oh, completely forgot. If you/they haven't tried In-N-Out before.. ya kind of have to.
But research the secret menu online.
I prefer a double "animal style".

Javiar's in La Jolla was good. George's at the cove had great views and food.

Feel like four days in La Jolla could get boring. I'm on the younger side, though, so my opinion could differ from a family. You should consider a day trip to Carlsbad and Oceanside.

You won't be far from Old Town SD, I'd check out Old Town Mex and the other restaurants and historic site.
If you're into tiki, there's False Idol which is well worth visiting.
Day time I'd make sure I hike Torrey Pines, and second the others saying day trip it to Carlsbad. The whole village is walkable. Señor Grubby's is the shite, plenty of kid friendly bars as well.

I stay at the Pantai Inn right downtown.
Pantai Inn Link
I guess this makes me a real Pantai-dropper.
We had the room with this exact view (photo from their website):
