25 years ago a 123 flathead record was caught on Zebco 33 with 12lb line

Ran across this on my feed today. Thought it was interesting and a good pic of on hell of a flathead.

That's pretty damn impressive. I've caught many flatheads in the 25+ pound range and they are tackle testers for sure.
Landing something that size on such light gear is damn near a miracle.

Heck of a fish.
We used to buy the plastic Zebco 202 for .97 cents at West Bros. We would wear one out n one night at the flares in Lake Barre. Late 60’s. School trout two at a time by the hundreds.

Nope. I have a 80s 33 that I keep in the boat just in case. That 33 is bulletproof. It’s also great for people who don’t fish. You can teach them how to use it in 30 seconds.

I have 2 zebco 33s with 5 ft rods on standby everyday to bust those great eating Kentucky red eyed bass on the creek...... Best eating fish there is in cold clear water

I caught a 60 pounder here in Missouri a while back and that was huge to me, I cant imagine handling one that size.
