What is the average cost per square yard/square foot to completely replace a St. Augustine lawn.

St Augustine will cost about $6-8 per yard installed in Baton Rouge area. That depends on how many yards of sod needed. That’s for a fully prepped yard.

Prep work will depend on the size of the area, how the old grass has to be removed and if it all has to be loaded and hauled off.

We did a full prep on a house in Central for an additional 1.50 per yd with a $6 per yd install.

This gentleman had an area where the old grass could be moved to and rough graded, so there was no disposal fee.

It was a day of prep by my grade guy with a day of install by my sod crew. 18 pallets total. 900 square yds.

Previous owner did not maintain the lawn at all. So many types of weeds I’ve lost count. AND there are other grasses besides St. Augustine

Do you want St Aug? Is the yard graded and doesn’t need much work from that perspective?

If it’s just kill/till/resod, it really shouldn’t be too bad. Depending on how much work you can do yourself.

You can cut it super low (scalp), spray two rounds of glyohosate, scalp again, then have someone prep it with a Harley rake on a skid steer. Could also make some minor adjustments to grade if necessary.

After that, it’s some soil amendments if needed, a little starter fertilizer, and laying the new sod. Then lots of watering.

Cost-wise, St Aug sod is around $300/pallet (450 sqft) installed. A skid steer with Harley rake probably looking at ~$1500/day.
