Honestly, I was kinda disappointed in him when I saw him back in 2021

Was too crowded for Gary Clarke, came back for Derek Trucks and it was awesome

He’s just kinda boring. Lyrics are whatever, voice isn’t particularly special, stage presence wasn’t all that entertaining, and his guitar playing is very tasteful, but it’s not very flashy. I have seen some guitar performances that have absolutely blown me away with how technically brilliant and above my skill level they are. His performance just didn’t seem like it was that much greater than the average successful gigging lead guitarist. I was very underwhelmed. Just a bland performance by my standards. Maybe I’m spoiled.

Completely agree. Saw him yesterday and confirmed all the things you said.

It’s just not an exciting act.

Interesting. Sounds like he isn't that great on guitar, but his albums and press coverage say the opposite.

Not all venues suit the artist. I only went to JF once to see a particular band. It was not a great show at all. Seen the same band inside and the atmosphere was 1000x's better.

He's a very talented guitar player, but I don't find his music all that interesting.

I've seen him live a few times and yesterday was by far the worst. Just sluggish, a lot of slow songs. He is usually tight, fast, loud and great.

I think the fact that he played late the night before at Willie Nelson's 90th bday celebration in Los Angeles had something to do with the energy up there.

Definitely. His stage presence Sunday I would describe as “entitled”… didn’t seem like he wanted to put in the work up there. And I like GCJ.

He's got songs I like and he's got songs that make me question if I really like those other songs
