Im reading Verdict Ridge, about 30 minutes north. Only open to public on weekdays. Elevation changes, good conditions, fast greens

Link to Axios top 10 accessible within an hour of Charlotte :

Public golf in Charlotte is fantastic.

Probably 30 good courses within an hour downtown (Uptown CLT).

Rocky River / Tega Cay / Eagle Chase / Verdict Ridge / Red Bridge / Old Sycamore are all great tracts.

I beg to differ. It’s atrocious… the public courses around CLT are either goat tracks or are overbooked. 5 hr rounds is no way to play.

I live in S CLT and hate that I’m considering looking to join a private club.

You don’t know what a good thing you have till it’s gone.

I lived in CLT for 3 years, now back In Baton Rouge.

It’s night and day compared to the golf desert down here.

Comparing apples to poop. How big is BR's metro compared to CLT?

But to argue your point, lots of cheap land w/ lots of water.

CLT is still crap. Raleigh has better public course options, same goes for down at the MB/Grandstrand area.

This is spot on if you’re talking about all the shite courses that are ‘in the city’. Birkdake, the courses by Lowe’s motor speedway, etc. Those courses suck arse.

However, there’s great tracks if you’re willing to drive to verdict ridge, etc.

You must be blessed to know someone. It’s exclusive private, meaning you must be accompanied by a member.

If you’re talking city proper, then yes your options are limited and bad.

But if you’re willing to drive for 30-45 minutes you have tons of options in the CLT metro area.

What it sounds like you need is a friend that’s member

Yeah I don't wanna drive an hour to play 3.5-4 hrs of golf. My folks were members at Cowans for years. LOVED that place.

I've thought about joining there, but I wanna be able to go hit balls for 30 min or putt around after work. That stuff you can't do when you live an hour away.

Ever play Cedarwood?

I've played Old Sycamore in a Captain's Choice tourney a few years back. We won and I actually won longest drive by maybe 2 or 3 yards. No cheating on our team. Don't give a shite enough to cheat.

Not a bad course.

Because I hate 5 hour rounds of golf? Yeah, I'm a real downer.

Warrior in China Grove and Springfield in Fort Mill are personal favorites. Waterford in Rock Hill, Sc (20 minutes south of Charlotte) is owned by Panthers Owner, David Tepper and is also a good track.
