One of the best Kinks songs ever wasn't garage rock, or metal, or grunge. It was their beautiful 1965 ballad, "Tired Of Waiting For You." Simply sublime!

I had only heard lola nad you really got me until several years ago and I started a "help me get into the kinks" thread on here and Kafka, then as now, was huge in getting me int he right direction. I discovered a ton about them that I dig. Ther'es been a frickton of suggestions alreaydin this thread but a few I haven't seen offhand that I'm personally drawn to are
Daylight
Picture Book
Denmark street
The last 2 are ones I don't ever seen anyone else really mention but I love em. They're quick, short, and "head bobbing, toe tapping" singalong kinda songs. They're simple and not going to set the world on fire btu I get em stuck in my head frequently.

Jukebox Music was a solid song.

Morning Song/Daylight might be the best opener to an album ever. As for Picture Book, I mentioned the whole Village Green album; not a bad song on it.

remember when Ray Davies was visiting NOLA and got shot in the leg chasing thugs who stole his girlfriend's purse ? I do, 20 years ago last month. Of course the then DA dropped the ball and the thugs never went to trial and were released. Some things never change.

There’s an argument that “You Really Got Me” and “All Day And All of the Night” have proto-metal riffs, and there’s the distortion. There’s a reason why Van Halen covered the first song….
